"China market not affected over boycott campaign" – Adeeb

Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb affirms Chinese tourist market has not declined due to recently ignited tourism boycott campaign by some of the opposition entities.
While answering a question raised by a reporter during yesterday’s press conference at President’s Office، Adeeb states anti-government، tourism boycott campaign is run under fake Twitter accounts holding merely or less than 200 followers in each، and thus it had not brought any significant set back on tourism from China market.
“A few individuals are doing this [boycott campaign]، I do not believe any drastic setbacks have outcome due to this، on the other hand tourism is promoted in an extensive level، with market segmenting and increasing PR forms، along with promotion and recommendation from well-wishers” Adeeb said.
Maldives tourism industry is dominant of Chinese tourists، with a record amount of tourist visits in Maldives during previous month، China tops the chart with the highest number of tourists visiting in the said period.
Statistical data indicates، a total of 120،000 tourists had visited Maldives in the month of February this year، which is a record figure put in comparison with the entire 40 year life span of tourism industry in Maldives.
Minister Adeeb had also highlighted that with a record number of Chinese tourists visiting Maldives، resorts have accustomed to welcome them with check-in forms، brochures and sign boards printed in Mandarin.
In addition to this Adeeb had focused on providing safety and protection for the tourists visiting Maldives، while asserting the guest deaths in Maldives have not put any adverse effects at play in tourism industry as of now.
