Deputy leader of the Parliamentary Group of the Jumhooree Party, Abdulla Riyaz has said that the implementation of the new penal code will be delayed by the government for one year.
Abdulla Riyaz made this remark following the passing of delaying the implementation of the new penal code for a period of three months.
The delaying of the implementation of the penal code was passed with the unanimous agreement of the 43 members who participated in the vote.
Abdulla Riyaz said that there is no plausible reason to delay the implementation of the new penal code when the institutions responsible were all ready for the implementation of it from Monday.
“The only reason is politics. To tyrannize opposition leaders. There is no other reason,” he said.
Maafannu Dhekunu MP Asma Rasheed when asked by Abdulla Riyaz for the reason for the delay she replied that it was because they wanted to delay it.
PPM PG group’s deputy leader Ahmed Nihan said that if they want to delay even further they would support to delay it.
