The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will only stop after freeing all the political detainees، Addu Meedhoo MP Rozeyna Adam said.
Speaking at MDP’s “Free All Political Detainees” Protest، MP Rozeyna said the party will bring peace to the nation.
“We are yet again on the streets. We will bring peace to the nation. Maldives is currently facing the most atrocious leader it has ever seen.”
MP Rozeyna said that incumbent President is alone with his ‘bribed’ supporters. She noted that even ruling Progressive Party of Maldives want to bring a change، including former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom، who refused the invitation to the Symposium.
Furthermore، MP Rozeyna said that MDP is with everyone who want to bring a change and save the country from the incumbent president and the ‘bribed’ supporters.
“Everyone is either shackled or bribed.”
Concluding her speech، MP Rozeyna said the party will only stop it’s undertaking after freeing former president Mohamed Nasheed and other political detainees.
“We will also save the judiciary from the bribing clutches.”
The protest was announced following the former president Mohamed Nasheed transferred to Maafushi Prison، after he was kept house arrest.
The document given to President Nasheed by Correctional Service indicating that he has been transferred to house detention permanently، was declared fake and the case has been presented to the police as well.
During the investigation of this case، President Nasheed’s wife، former First Lady Laila and Nasheed’s lawyer، Hassan Latheef was presented to the police station. Police also entered and inspected Laila’s current residence، Yaagoothuge upon a court warrant.
Earlier، discussions of peace were held between MDP and the government، the results of which would be good according to both MDP and the government. However، these discussions have also stopped and MDP has decided to not take part in any further discussions.
MDP and the opposition parties held their last mass protest on May 1st، “Mayday Protest”.
