Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that the reality of the Criminal Court trial and verdict issued for former President Mohamed Nasheed would become apparent to the world.
Dunya made the statement speaking to the press, after responding to the case Nasheed had filed to UN Working Group.
Dunya stated that in the case submitted to UN Group included the transcripts of his statement which had ordered the arbitrary arrest and detention of Criminal Court Judge Abdullah Mohamed. She added that this was a clear flagrant violation of the Constitution and a blatant misuse of the armed forces.
President Abdullah Yameen had previously stated that Nasheed’s sentence can either be changed or lightened, once his team finished the legal process.
However, Nasheed’s team had not yet filed the appeal, citing that his sentence was a political one and therefore, a political solution was required.
The State has said that the case was not a political one but a criminal one based on terror charges.
