Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has departed to Japan this afternoon on an official visit to attend the the annual World Assembly for Women (WAW Tokyo 2015).
Speaking at the press conference held at the Foreign Ministry earlier today، Minister Dunya said the conference is hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe، and will be attended by high level delegates and organizations from across the world advocating، safeguarding and empowering the rights of women.
Minister Dunya is set to take part in a panel discussion on women education، during the conference.
“Despite the obstacles، Maldives had complete major milestones in ending gender discrimination. We will share our experiences and hold discussions among the participating members in the conference،” Minister said.
During the visit، Foreign Minister Dunya is scheduled to meet with His Excellency Mr. Fumio Kishida، Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan and other senior officials of the Japanese Government and hold discussions on further improving and expanding the excellent relations between the Maldives and Japan.
Japan has been one of the most important development partners for the Maldives since the 1970’s.
