In discussions at the 'Bandhu Forum', a forum organized by the Prosecutor General's Office to discuss remand issues with all relevant authorities besides the judiciary participating, authorities concurred that the issue is not in itself the holding of persons in remand in custody until the end of trial, but rather in the extensive delays in completing trials.
This consensus was announced on the PG Office website after the conclusion of the forum.
The statement also said that discussions at the forum also focused on how institutions can assist the judiciary in expediting criminal cases.
Suggested solutions include increasing video conferencing systems in courtrooms and exploring avenues of conducting trials in an online schedule system.
The next forum will be held including representatives from the judiciary as well. PG Office said at the following forum, findings of the initial forum will be shared with the judiciary. Then, in light of the judiciary's feedback, the PG Office will appeal to the government and relevant institutions to implement the necessary changes and monitor progress.
