A national security operation is underway in the Male' area tonight following a tip off to police intelligence.
However, police intelligence later retracted the statement, saying they were reviewing the information.
“The statement previously shared on X has been temporarily withdrawn. The Maldives Police Service will verify the sensitive details and provide further updates to the media,” police said in a message to journalists.
Despite the withdrawal of the statement, the operation is currently underway in Male'.
It is reported that the operation, lead by police counter terrorism began several days ago, with searches still ongoing at various locations in Male' area.
The statement released earlier stated “The Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force are conducting a special operation in the Male' area”.
No further details have been disclosed about the operation.
