The Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has announced that it is looking to establish an examination center in every inhabited island in the country.
Speaking on PSM News' ‘Raajje Miadhu’ programme, MQA’s CEO Mariyam Fizana Rasheed said the examination centers would be developed through collaboration and assistance of the respective island council. He said he would consult with the councils to do the work.
Fizana said the examination centers would be in line with MQA standards which would enable the educational institutions to conduct their examinations in the islands without having to bring students to the capital Male’.
"Small-scale institutes offering various courses can conduct exams for a small fee. You can register anywhere and take the exam. It would be a great help if we could set up an exam center in every other island,” she explained.
MQA is also working to establish a robust system to monitor online examinations, according to Fizana, which will facilitate online examinations to be conducted to meet the best possible standards.
There are currently seven areas where online teaching and examination are prohibited under the guidelines for teaching online courses online in the Maldives, including Medicine and Dentistry, Practical Discipline of Health Sciences, Nursing, Technical and Vocational Education, Engineering, Architecture and Teaching.
