Road upgrade project begins in Foakaidhoo

The Road Development Corporation (RDC) has commenced work to modernise the main roads of Foakaidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll.
The project was officially handed over to RDC during a visit to the island by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in October last year, where he met with local residents at a community gathering.
According to information shared by RDC with PSM News, survey work required for the road construction has already begun. Materials needed to set up the project site have also been delivered to the island. RDC stated that the project is funded by the government with a total cost of USD 5.24 million and is scheduled for completion within 730 days.
The RDC highlighted that the project will provide a permanent solution to the issue of flooding on the island’s roads, while also making travel easier and more convenient for residents. RDC further noted that the work will be carried out in a way that minimises disruption to daily life on the island, taking into account findings from ongoing surveys.
In addition to road development, the government is also undertaking several other infrastructure projects on Foakaidhoo, including the development of a modern Islamic centre and the establishment of a waste management facility.
