Chairperson of the MDP, Ali Waheed has appealed the government to stop economically tyrannizing the people.
Ali Waheed made this remark speaking at the press conference held at Adhaalath Party office following the protests held in Kulhudhufushi and Addu City regarding the raise in the electricity bill.
Ali Waheed said that the government has raised the cost of electricity usage to alarming levels. “As a result the people of the most densely areas of Maldives, Addu City and Kulhudhufushi have come out to the streets to protest against this,” he said.
Ali Waheed said that the government ignored the pleas of the people of Addu City and Kulhudhufushi and raised the cost of electricity usage. He said that the tyranny of the government has gone beyond bounds.
The MDP chair person said that these tyrannical actions of the government cannot be accepted.
He said that this is a big loss that the government is afflicting the people with.
“No new jobs were created in civil service. No good changes were brought to the salaries. And yet they are increasing more taxes and raising current taxes and electricity usage charge,” he said.
Ali Waheed said that the government is oppressing the people and enslaving them. “There philosophy is to lead the people to poverty,” he said.
