Government plans to merge customs and immigration- Minister Umar

The government has plans to merge Maldives Customs Service and the Department of Immigration، announced Home Minister Umar Naseer.
Speaking at a special flag hoisting ceremony held this morning at the Customs Building to mark the 125th anniversary of Maldives Customs Service، Umar said the government has plans to merge customs with the immigration similar to the developed countries.
“Merging the two institutions will help to curb the government expenses، as the works of the two institutions are similar and it will bring instant developments to the institutions.”
Customs has been running under Home Ministry while  immigration has been under Economic Ministry.
Speaking at the ceremony، Commissioner General of Customs Abbas Adhil Riza said all arrangements have been finalized to make customs into a risk—based management framework.
