Ahmed Mahloof، the People’s Majlis member for Galolhu Dhekunu Constituency، had urged the authorities to release the detained former President Mohamed Nasheed immediately.
Following the arrest of Nasheed، Mahloof made his statement on a tweet he posted today.
He said ‘for the sake of the country، drop the charges pressed against Mohamed Nasheed and release him immediately’.
Meanwhile، it has been reported that Mahloof had signed to Jumhooree Party، who are currently the opposition. Mahloof was previously a senior official of the ruling party، Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
State pressed terrorist charges against Nasheed on the allegations of imprisoning chief justice of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012، on unlawful grounds.
The hearing of Nasheed’s case is tabled at 16:00 on Monday at the Criminal Court.
Criminal Court’s arrest warrant said that Nasheed is to be arrested as he might not show up to his court proceedings.
