Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has welcomed the Prosecutor General for withdrawing the charges against former President Mohamed Nasheed at Hulhumale’ Court.
Prosecutor General yesterday has withdrawn charges being pressed against the Former President, Mohamed Nasheed for illegally detaining the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Abdulla Mohamed.
According to reports, the charges were withdrawn for further investigations. Along with President Nasheed, state had pressed charges against the Former Defense Minister, current Defense Minister and Former Chief of Defense Force, Moosa Ali Jaleel, and Former Brigadier General, Ibrahim Didi.
Gasim Ibrahim recently called the Prosecutor General to withdraw the charges against Nasheed. Prosecutor General stated that Gasim cannot make such a call and threatened to take action against Gasim.
Gasim said that the charges against Nasheed is politically motivated and it should be withdrawn.
He said that Nasheed garnered the most votes individually in the 2013 Presidential Election and got 48 percent of the votes.
