Deputy of the Home Minister, Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) has said that the skydivers trained for the Independence Day event did not jump off to land at the National Stadium for safety reasons.
Maaz Saleem told Sun Media today that the Home Minister decided that it was not the safest to skydive and land at the National Stadium at night while activities were ongoing.
He said that the Home Minister was also concerned about an accident that could happen if all the skydivers jumped.
The two people who jumped off at 3500 ft last night and landed at the National Stadium last night during the military display was a Police Officer, Mohamed Favvaaz and two MNDF personnel, Moosa Niyaz and Ismail Rasheed.
An official from the Home Ministry told Sun Media that those three people were the most skilled on the parachute during the training.
Among the people who were trained for the skydiving, the opportunity for the jump was given to 12 people.
They were trained by experts from Malaysia including a world record holder.
