Auditor General recommends policy change for political party funding
Niyaz Ibrahim recommended the parliament to allocate only 0.1 percent of the state income excluding loans to political parties. "According to the Political Party Regulation, 0.1 percent of the state budget is to be given to political parties. But as the budget is not devised in a way to make ends meet, implementing such a policy is unsustainable. Therefore, the policy should be changed to 0.1 percent of state income (minus loans and donations)," the parliamentary budget committee report reads. The report says that the recommendation is based on budget financing, government guarantee for loans provided by financial institutions for private investments, water and sewerage projects carried out under Public Private Partnership, why the budget of government-funded companies are not included in the proposed budget and the importance of population consolidation and development. Rf11 million is allocated for political parties in next year's budget.
