Three arrests made on kidnapping and snuff-film case

Authorities have arrested three individuals in relation to the kidnapping of Ahmed Shafeeu, a public prosecutor, to allegedly coerce him into making a snuff film.
Maldives Police have confirmed the arrest of three local men aged 25, 26, and 27 on December 14 in connection with the suspected involvement in the case.
The three were presented to Criminal Court on Friday, December 15, for remand. The court sentenced a 12-day remand on the 25-year-old individual and five days each for the rest.
While the police have said that they are investigating the case, they did not provide any further details.
The three individuals are charged with kidnapping, intimidation, looting, thievery, and the creation of sexually explicit content. According to local reports, the case is related to recent allegations made against the public prosecutor in question regarding his homosexuality.
Previously, similar allegations were made against the public prosecutor on social media platforms. However, the Prosecutor General's Office has not taken any action against Shafeeu.
The public prosecutor and former PSM Presenter had represented the state in several high-profile cases.
