Public Service Media (PSM) officially launched its highly anticipated "PSM Media Fellowship 2025" on Sunday, welcoming 15 young individuals eager to immerse themselves in the professional broadcasting and media environment.
The comprehensive programme is designed to identify, train, and produce skilled youth across various facets of the media industry, serving as a critical pipeline for future talent within the national broadcaster.
The commencement ceremony saw participants formally receive their certificates from PSM Managing Director Ibrahim Nasreen. The core objective of the PSM Media Fellowship is to provide hands-on skill development under the guidance of national and international experts. Over the course of the fellowship, participants will learn vital news and programme production techniques, develop a professional portfolio, and gain crucial practical experience by working across different PSM platforms, including its TV Production and News and Current Affairs Departments.
Speaking at the event, Nasreen emphasised that the fellowship is aimed at familiarising young people with the working environment of PSM, ensuring they are field-ready upon completion.
"The 15 participants joining us today are the individuals we hope will become the top talent working in PSM studios, channels, and productions in the future," Nasreen stated, urging the fellows to maximise the opportunity with assurance of PSM’s full support.
Echoing the commitment required, PSM Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yameen acknowledged the challenging nature of media work but assured participants that proper training eases the transition.
"It is our hope that you will make the most of this opportunity to serve and educate the community," Yameen said, noting the prestige associated with gaining experience through the national broadcaster.
The programme requires a daily commitment of six hours of operational work. Participants will receive a structured compensation package, including a salary of USD 324.25 and a fellowship allowance of USD 194.55. Significantly, PSM confirmed that the best candidates who meet the company’s stringent performance criteria will be offered permanent employment opportunities, securing a pathway from training to full-time careers.
Participants selected for the programme highlighted the urgent need for such practical opportunities within the youth segment.
