State Minister Ahmed Shafeeu has been appointed as the Chairman of Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), marking his return to the position he previously held during President Abdulla Yameen's administration from 2014 to 2018.
Island Aviation announced Shafeeu’s appointment today, welcoming him back to the role. He replaces Mohamed Mihad, who was appointed as Chairman on January 9, 2024, and also served as the company’s Managing Director. It remains unclear whether Mihad resigned or was dismissed from the position.
Shafeeu, currently serving as the State Minister for Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, brings extensive experience in government and public sector leadership. He previously held the position of Minister of Fisheries during President Mohamed Waheed’s administration from 2012 to 2013, and later served as State Minister of Education under President Yameen's government.
The Island Aviation Services Board currently consists of five other members:
- Ibrahim Iyas – Executive Director
- Ali Saleem – Deputy Managing Director
- Abdulla Saeed – Non-Executive Director
- Mohamed Hassaan – Non-Executive Director
- Ahmed Aboobakuru – Non-Executive Director
Island Aviation Services is the parent company of the national airline Maldivian, which operates both domestic and international flights across key destinations.
