Pre-medicine courses accepted after a four year gap

After a gap of four years, the Medical and Dental Council has once again begun accepting the course in pre-medicine.
Pre-medicine is a one-year course students take instead of A’ Levels in order to qualify for the MBBS or dentistry course (BDS).
However, the Medical Council said in a statement made in January 2019 that they had stopped accepting pre-medicine courses because it was found that the courses in some countries were poorly designed resulting in low quality outcomes.
Some countries offer one-year pre-medicine courses that last only six months, the statement said.
However, after a gap of four years, the council amended the regulations.
According to the policy published on August 22, 2023, students who have passed Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics with a grade lower than C will have to complete one year or 32 academic weeks of pre-medicine.
In an earlier statement, the medical council said it had received complaints that pre-medicine courses offered abroad aimed at Maldivian students had caused them mental and financial harm. However, this time, the council did not provide details on why they made the change.
