Safa Shafeeq has been elected as the president of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).
Safa was elected to the role with the unanimous consensus of her fellow commissioners in a vote taken on Wednesday.
She replaces Mariyam Waheeda – whose term at the commission expired in December.
Safa was appointed to the Broadcom on May 9, 2023.
She holds a Master of Arts in Social Policy from Maldives National University (MNU) and Masters of Arts in Communication from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT), Malaysia.
She previously worked as a television personality for state broadcaster Public Service Media (PSM) since 2006.
BroadCom is comprised of seven members – each appointed for a term of five years. They are an independent institution mandated to govern the implementation of the Broadcasting Act and regulate the broadcasting sector.
