Saudi King accepts invitation to visit Maldives

King of Saudi ‎Arabia Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has accepted the invitation extended by president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for a state visit to the Maldives, president’s office said Tuesday.
During the ongoing state visit to Saudi Arabia, president Yameen had extended the invitation as he met King Salman on Tuesday, the president’s office said.
“… King Salman accepted the offer and agreed to visit the Maldives at a mutually convenient date,” a statement released after the official talks read.
President Yameen since assuming power has looked to deepen ties with the Saudi Kingdom.
The Saudis are funding several key projects including a significant airport development project.
According to the president’s office, King Salman during the high-level discussions had acknowledged the long standing, existing bilateral relationship between Maldives and Saudi Arabia and expressed his keen interest to further reinforce the brotherly ties between the two countries.
President Yameen in his second state visit to the kingdom in his three year tenure had emphasized that Saudi Arabia has remained a strong partner in the development of the island nation.
