It has been confirmed to Sun Online that the person nominated by former President Mohamed Nasheed to the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI), and accepted by the government, is Ahmed Saeed (Gaha Saeed).
The government has not made any announcement in relation to the nomination so far, however yesterday said that they had accepted, and sent to the Commonwealth, the latest person proposed by Nasheed.
Gaha Saeed has many years’ experience in the education sector, and has acted as the Principal of Ahmadiyya School.
Even though the government has accepted this nomination, Gaha Saeed had participated in protests held against the current government after the fall of Nasheed’s administration.
The Government’s criteria of objectivity for the nominee proposed by Nasheed are that he must have at least an undergraduate degree from a recognized university, not have been politically active during the past two years, and not have taken a public stand on the events of 7 February 2012.
The President told the media prior to his departure to the UK this morning that there are certain concerns surrounding the new person nominated by Nasheed; however, the government has accepted this nomination and hopes to progress with this person.
“This person has also made political statements now and then. But we will not reject him,” the President said.
Nasheed had over the past few weeks proposed eleven persons as his representative in the CNI, all of which except one were rejected by the government.
