In addition to revealing the “X” in her silent inquiry report, Dhiyana further told the Parliament’s government accountability committee that the “Y” mentioned in her report is Kulhudhuffushi-south constituency MP Mohamed Nasheed. Dhiyana stated that she became aware of the assassination plot on Nasheed after “X” shared the details of the plot at her apartment on the night of February 6, 2012 a day before the controversial downfall of Nasheed’s government. Referring to “X” Dhiyana said in her report “according to ‘them’ there were many methods, that one of them could go in a technician’s guise, fix the air conditioning and that could do the job. Instantly, I understood that he meant a lethal gas and that he was talking about an assassination. Reacting from instinct, I raised both my hands and told him not to talk any further. Then immediately feeling bad about having been short and abrasive, I softened up saying the place could be bugged. He dismissed my objections and went on to say that there were people who were ready to shoot Nasheed upfront and they had, among them, the children of those who died on November 3, (1988).” Dhiyana who served as Attorney General and a SAARC Secretary General during ex-President Nasheed’s tenure and as Gender Minister for the present government shared this information with the Parliament’s government accountability committee. The committee agenda was publicized during last week. Dhiyana who also actively participated in the then opposition rallies calling for ex-President Nasheed to be removed from power, stated at the committee that she now believes the transfer of power was brought about through a coup. Speaking at the committee, she added that she had passed on the information of the assassination plot on Nasheed to the then Police Intelligence Head Mohamed Hameed and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) former Intelligence Head Brigadier General Ahmed Nilam. Dhiyana was removed from her position in the cabinet after she criticized President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik following the arrest of her husband, Kaashidhoo constituency MP Abdulla Jabir from Haa Dhaal Hondaidhoo for allegedly consuming alcohol.
