One girl among the minors used for prostitution in Fuvahmulak has been reported pregnant، reports say.
Police have on Friday tracked down a network of prostitution in Fuvahmulah and arrested 10 individuals for blackmailing and drugging minors to prostitution.
The matter of blackmailing and drugging two minors، a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old، to prostitution is currently being probed by the Police.
Among the two minors، 16 year old girl was tested positive for pregnancy at Fuvahmulak Hospital، which the reports say، triggered the police operation.
The hospital has immediately reported the case to Gender، after which the ministry and Police began the investigation، which led to the final operation last night.
Police have confirmed that in an operation conducted from 1600 hours of Friday to 0200 hours of Saturday، Police have taken 10 individuals into custody under a court order.
“Vaguthu” has learned that the arrestees include businessmen، powerful people of the island and owners of cafe’s. The arrestees are; four individuals from Dhoodigamu، two individuals from Funaadu، Individual from Miskiyymagu، individual from Maadhandu، and two individuals from Hoadhandu.
Police have searched the residence of the arrestees and confiscated related materials to the case from some houses، a witness informed “Vaguthu”.
