Mathivaru constituency MP, Hussein Mohamed has said that the government should have a responsibility for the people who bought flats from Gulhifalhu but were wronged.
Speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis, MP Mathivaru MP said that one family who bought a flat in Gulhifalhu had to return to their island. He said that they are in a very poor state. He added that the government should take responsibility and should resolve this problem immediately.
Hussein Mohamed said that he met a family who paid the down payment for the flat to Gulhifalhu investments. He said that about 216 paid the down payments.
“They were told that they will get the flats within a short period of time and that they will be able to settle there within September. So some bought furnitures and they left their rented apartment in Male’. But they were sent back and now they have no home,” he said.
He said that many paid the down payment using their life long savings and by taking debts.
Hussein Mohamed reiterated that the government should take the responsibility of this and should do something to alleviate the grievances faced by the people.
