Former VP Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi laid to rest in Bangkok

Former Vice President of Maldives and state dignitary Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi who passed away 27th November has been laid to rest.
Former VP Abdul Sattar passed away in Bangkok، Thailand while he was getting medical treatment. He passed away at the age of 79.
His funeral was attended by Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar، as a representative of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi was an extremely loyal and honest public serviceman، who started his devoted services i the early 1950s. He was appointed as the Maldivian Government Representative for Ceylon during His Majesty the King Mohamed Fareed’s rule by the then Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir.
Abdul Sattar remained as the MGR to Ceylon in Colombo at the time of the Maldivian declaration of Independence in 26th July 1965. Sattar as the most senior Maldivian in Colombo was dealing with the British in Ceylon، negotiating with them on behalf of Prime Minister Nasir. Sattar also was present when the declaration of Independence was signed by then Prime Minister Ibrahim Nasir and British High Commissioner to Ceylon Sir Charles Michael Walker.
Abdul Sattar Moosa Didi was gifted the fountain pen that President Nasir used for signing the declaration، and the same pen was also used by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II to sign the visitor’s book، during  her visit to Male in 1972.

He was appointed Vice President of Maldives during President Ibrahim Nasir’s administration، and he served in the position for two to three years. Abdul Sattar also served as Nasir’s Finance Minister. He was re-appointed to the cabinet by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Sattar was conferred the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzuddeen on 26th July 2011 during President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration.
