The salary of Civil Servants is not planned to be increased next year، said Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad.
Minister Jihad said that even though increments are brought to certain taxes، the salary of Civil Servants will be unchanged، during the sitting of 2015 Projected State Budget Committee in the Parliament on Monday.
However، he said that 32% of the Projected Budget of 2015 will cover the expenses on Civil Servants، which is less than the expenses covered in 2014.
Upon questioned by a member regarding the increment of the salary of Teachers، Minister said that even though discussions are conducted regarding the matter، the increment for Teachers’ salary is not yet definite.
Showing concerns regarding Minister’s statement، Kinbidhoo Lawmaker، Commissioner of Police (Retired) Abdulla Riyaz said that its mandatory to increase the salary of the Civil Servants as ultimately they are the common people to ‘pay’ for the expenses the corporate businesses pay for taxes and duties.
Vilifushi Lawmaker Riyaz Rasheed from PPM said in the committee that if the salary of Civil Servants is not increased، the common citizen’s wealth will diminish.
While the Projected State Budget of 2015 is 24.3 billion Rufiyaa، the income of the state is projected to 21.5 billion Rufiyaa.
