An elderly Maldivian Hajj pilgrim has died while undergoing treatment for a lung ailment.
The deceased is 77-year old Gasim Mohamed (from Alif Dhaal Mahibadhoo), who attended the pilgrimage under the sponsorship of Hajj Corporation.
The Corporation’s Managing Director Yamin Idrees said that he was undergoing treatment in Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal Hospital, but passed away today at about 3:00 a.m.
He added that Gasim was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit three days ago for the treatment.
A total of 1,300 Maldivians - under the sponsorship of Maldives Hajj Corporation - have attended this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
