Financial issues found in Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka

An audit report has found massive financial issues in the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
According to the report, illegal expenses were made using the High Commission’s budget, and that they cannot verify details of some of their expenses.
It stated that the some of the finances given to them - to renovate and store High Commission items in 2011 and 2012 - were not used for the intended purpose.
The report also stated that when they looked into the expenses made for the High Commission’s renovations and maintenance in 2011, 2012, and 2013, it was noted that 3.3 million rupees were spent without filing any written statements - confirming whether the commission received the bought items or whether the work was completed.
It also noted that renovations were made without any agreements, and that some bills have still not been paid.
The report has been submitted to the Sri Lanka’s High Commission, the President’s Office, the Parliament, as well as to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has said that the audit on the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka was made at her request.
