Maldivian contingent departs to participate in Commonwealth Youth Games

The Maldivian Contingent has departed to Samoa last night to participate in the 5th Commonwealth Youth Games, which is held from September 5th to 11th.
The contingent has a total of six athletes from athletics and swimming - including Nishwan Ibrahim (the 1st ranked swimmer in the country), Mohamed Muthasim Adhunaan and Maariyaa Mohamed Rishwan from the swimming side, as well as Ibrahim Ashfaan Ali (Appi), Ali Shaam and Khadheejaa Ahmed from the athletics side.
The coach for the swimming team is Ibrahim Moosa - the Assistant Coach from the Senior Team, while the coach for the athletics team is Mariyam Abdul Gadir.
The contingent’s chef de mission is the current athletics coach Yazni Nasheedhaa (Yazu), who was formerly a sprinter.
More than 1,000 athletes are participating in seven sports in this year’s tournament.
This is the second time the Maldives is participating in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
