A lawmaker submitted a motion to the Parliament to summon and question the country's home minister over the extradition of Abdulla Luthufee, the mastermind behind the 1988 coup attack on Maldives.
Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed who filed the motion said Minister Imran Abdulla should be summoned to the parliament to inquire regarding the government's effort to extradite Luthufee who fled to neighboring Sri Lanka nine years ago, and recently turned himself in at the Maldivian embassy in Sri Lanka.
Secretary General of the parliament office, Fathmath Niusha on Sunday revealed that it has been scheduled for Minister Imran to be questioned by the parliament during Monday's sitting.
Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has also proposed to question the minister regarding preventive measures being taken by the government to avoid a similar situation to what occurred on 7th and 8th February 2012, where then president Mohamed Nasheed had resigned after succumbing to pressure from mutinying security forces who joined anti-government protesters in demonstrating against the government.
The Secretary General said the parliament office is working to issue a notice to the minister regarding the proposition.
According to parliament laws, a period of 14 days must be granted to cabinet ministers before he is to answer to the parliament over any issue.
