Finance Minister launches Commercial Law Development Program

The Minister of Finance Mr Ibrahim Ameer has inaugurated the Commercial Law Development Program: Government Procurement Best Practices.
A seminar which was held from 04 August to 05 August at Hotel Jen where the Maldives Minister of Finance highlighted on the importance of bringing accountability to “what is spent from our (state)budget.”
The seminar also focused on the proper management of public resources, and the initiative was put forth as a means to eradicate corruption and to dismantle the procedures and institutional framework that “abet corruption.”
Minister Ameer further noted that such seminars would help “in transforming our procurement framework towards a modern, fair, and efficient system and that the different country experiences shared throughout the seminar can bring about impactful outcomes.”
Furthermore, Mr Ameer noted towards working together and “leveraging on the expertise and support of experts” to achieve the vision of a more robust and efficient procurement system in Maldives.
At the seminar information on areas such as Overview of UNCITRAL Model Law on Procurement, South Africa’s Procurement Rules, Tendering Process in U.S Procurement and The Philippines Procurement Reform Process were given for attendees.
The Maldives Minister of Finance thanked the Commercial Law Development Program of the United States Department of Commerce for being the hosts of the seminar.
