Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has said that we all have to engineer ways to keep Maldives as a fully Islamic nation.
He made the statement speaking in the official ceremony held in K. Guraidhoo to mark the day Maldives embraced Islam.
Minister Shareef said that if we are to strengthen our faith, then we have to revert to completing and adhering to the basics of Islam.
“We have to fully inculcate the proper values and teachings of Islam in the next generations, our youth to move our nation towards a peaceful destination,” he said.
Minister Shareef added that in order to facilitate this, the education given to the children must be holistic, focusing on physical, emotional health and spiritual enrichment.
“I believe that the current curriculum is a holistic, complete one. The curriculum emphasizes on following Islam, faith and personal responsibility,” he said.
Minister Shareef appealed to teachers and parents to follow and implement the new curriculum, stressing that we need to be wary of secular ideals creeping into our society. He added that the purpose of those promoting secular values was to create disruption and unity in the country.
