Home Minister Umar Naseer has refuted the rumors that there were political reasons behind the disappearance of missing journalist Rilwan.
Speaking to PSM, Minister Umar said though some had claimed Rilwan was a journalist famed for his political news reporting, he was not known amongst many political figures.
“I personally have not met Rilwan. I don’t even know who he is,” he said.
He added that many rumors had circulated about former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s connection to Rilwan’s disappearance. Minister Umar said Adeeb had been questioned in connection to the disappearance, but Adeeb had denied all such charges.
The Minister appealed all not politicize Rilwan’s disappearance, adding that even now Police was carrying out the investigation.
Police had held a press conference to brief the public on the case, after which the press had said information revealed 600 days after his disappearance was not sufficient. Police said the case was still under investigation and will release additional information. Following the press conference, two additional individuals from Hulhumale’ and Male’ were arrested.
The five individuals first arrested in connection to the case had been released by Court.
