President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on X that the colossal vessel, owned by Jan De Nul, has commenced operations on Monday, marking a major milestone in the nation's drive to expand habitable land. This move is part of the President’s October pledge to bring in large dredgers to expedite land reclamation works across the Malé area and other islands, with two such dredgers already in operation..
The Rasmale’ project, envisioned as the world's first eco-city and a key promise of President Muizzu's administration, is central to the government's broader agenda.
Alongside Rasmale’, extensive dredging operations are also underway for Hulhumale' Phase 3 and Gulhi Falhu, with numerous other land reclamation initiatives progressing through various stages nationwide.
