Indian Foreign Secretary Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in Maldives this afternoon on a one-day official visit, as a Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India. The Foreign Secretary was greeted on arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, by Foreign Secretary of Maldives, Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
During this visit, particular attention will be given to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, economic and defense. Discussions will also be held on the implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation during the Fifth Session of the Maldives-India Joint Commission that was held in October 2015.
During the visit, Dr. S. Jaishankar will call on the His Excellency Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Foreign Secretary. The special envoy is accompanied by Ms. Renu Pall, Joint Secretary and Ms. Shashwati Arya, Under Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
