President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of congratulations ‎to the Prime Minister Designate of Canada، Justin Trudeau، following the Liberal party’s victory in the general elections.
In the message، President has extended sincere congratulations، behalf of the people and the Government of Maldives، to the new Prime Minister and the Liberal party، for the election victory.
Furthermore، President extended well wishes for new heights of progress and prosperity in Canada، and reassured Maldives’ commitment to further strengthening the close ties of friendship between the two countries.
The Liberals seized a Parliamentary majority، a turn in political fortunes that smashed the record for the number of seats gained from one election to the next. The center-left Liberals had been a distant third place party before this election
