Nearly 30 expat-run unlicensed businesses reported in under two days

Nearly 30 establishments believed to be unlicensed businesses operated by expatriates have been reported within less than two days since the opportunity to report such businesses were opened, says Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
In an announcement published on the Government Gazette on Thursday, the Economic Ministry said that various government institutions continue to receive reports regarding large-scale unlicensed business activities in the Maldives by expatriates.
The ministry asked members of the public with information regarding such businesses to report it to them.
In a post on X on Saturday, Saeed said that 29 businesses were reported within the first 41 hours.
He said that the national taskforce established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will begin attending to these reports in the afternoon.
“I provide assurance that these places will be searched and checked, and we will be action in accordance with the law as the reports come in,” added Saeed.
