The ‘Ceylon Aa Eku Dhivehin’ telethon, a collaborative fundraising effort by Public Service Media (PSM) and local media to aid victims of Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka, has successfully raised a grand total equivalent to USD 800,352.
The proceeds were officially handed over to Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, destined for the Sri Lankan government as humanitarian aid.
At a ceremony held at the PSM studio, PSM Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yameen Rasheed presented the funds to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel.
Minister Khaleel assured that the financial aid would be dispatched to the Sri Lankan government later Tuesday. He lauded the joint initiative by PSM and local media, emphasising its significant role in strengthening the fraternal bonds between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The telethon, spearheaded by PSM in collaboration with nearly 40 local media outlets, ran from 9:00 am on 30 November and concluded at 2:00 pm on 1 December.
Crowe Maldives served as the official audit partner for the telethon, working closely with PSM from its inception to its conclusion, including the meticulous counting of funds after the fundraising deadline.
PSM extended its sincere gratitude to all participants and those who contributed in various capacities to the success of the telethon.
