A foreign national has died after a landing craft capsized near the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area on Sunday.
Police said they received a report of the incident at 15:44. Fourteen people were on board the vessel at the time. Six were taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment, four Maldivians and two foreigners.
One of the two foreigners sustained serious injuries and later died. He was identified as 32-year-old Masood Hussain from Bangladesh.
Details of the injuries sustained by the other victims have not yet been released. Police are currently investigating the incident.
A similar accident occurred mid-last month when a landing craft capsized due to bad weather, resulting in the deaths of one Maldivian and two foreign nationals.
