Economic Minister، Mohamed Saeed has been appointed as the Chair of the board of Special Economic Zones of Maldives Investments.
Ibrahim Muaz Ali who is the Spokesperson for President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom made an official tweet، confirming the news.
While Minister Saeed has been appointed as the Chair، Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been appointed as a board member.
VP Ahmed Adeeb was previously the Chair of this board. President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom announced the dismissal of Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor from his duties as the Chair of the board، managing investments of the Special Economic Zones of Maldives، and Co-Chair of the Economic and Youth Council while addressing the nation yesterday.
The council and board will now be chaired under the direct supervision of President Yameen. President Yameen said he will appoint new members to the positions.
President said that VP Ahmed Adeeb will not be the Chair of the Economic Committee starting from yesterday and that the President will be the Chair of the committee from now on and that VP has been dismissed from the Chair of board of SEZ Investment and Co-Chair of the Economic and Youth Council.
President said that within the past two years، the occurrences with the vice presidents have been very sad and that President has not received cooperation from them when he needed it the most.
President also said that VP Adeeb’s was not received during the times when he needed it the most.
“Before I created two councils and handed them over to the vice presidents. If things continue like this، some problems might occur in the future as well so my thinking is to directly take over the responsibilities myself”، said the President.
