Education Minister, Dr. Aishath Shiyam has said that 2,200 students have been applied for Grade. 1 in preschools of Malé, Vilimalé and Hulhumalé.
Speaking at the press conference at the Education Ministry regarding school admissions for 2016, the Minister said that the admission process for the next year has been ongoing since July.
“The admission process was begun in July of this years. And so the schools for the Grade. 1 students are now almost complete. So next week, guardians would receive the information on which schools the students would be attending.” Dr. Aishath Shiyam said.
Minister Dr. Shiyam said that 1,850 students would be promoting from Grade. 7 to Grade. 8. Unlike previous years, the stream selections for students began in August this year. It was in November that the students selected their streams in the previous years.
The Minister said that after finishing the admission process for the schools of Malé, Vilimalé and Hulhumalé, they would begin the process for students coming to Malé from the atolls. And said that an average of 900 students come from the atolls annually.
And so the admission forms can be submitted until 5 November.
As the preparations are being made to start a new academic year, some schools face more students in the transfers and admission process. And so this year, the highest demands are for Iskandhar School and Jamaaluddin School.
