Maldives minister hails 'successful' academic year

The end of this academic year saw the realisation of several academic achievements for the education sector, declared education minister Aishath Shiham. In her speech to mark the end of the academic year 2015 on Tuesday, the minister said the national curriculum had advanced to new stages this year, with certain grades incorporating the new curricular textbooks in their studies, including the new syllabus for foundation stage grades of schooling. The minister also noted the large scale launch of the vocational training programme for underachievers this year, in which over 1,100 students have participated so far. Minister also stated that opportunities for higher studies have been procured for more than 4000 students. “These endeavours bring success to the children of the Maldives, new life to our land, smiles to the parents, and happiness to the entire community,” declared the minister. Minister revealed that MVR 432 million had been spent from the state budget for the development of school facilities and resources. She also highlighted the beneficial changes the authorities brought to educators’ positions and income, adding that the government is working on securing chances for additional studies to teachers. The minister asserted that the results of the education sectors’ achievements have been laid bare for all to see, and their target is to prevent the neglect of even a single child. “The achievements of our students in international level examinations and the numbers of students finding employment to accomplish various work experiences are testimonies to the success of our aims.”
