Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has stated that UN and other nations expressed concern over the assassination attempt on the President carried out on September 28th.
Speaking in TVM Tuesday night, Minister Dunya said that the incident occurred when she was in UN and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and other officials had expressed their concern over the incident as well as other nations.
Dunya said that all of them had stated that the incident was a terror attack and condemned the attack. She also said that they had expressed their sympathies and said that they were in solidarity with the Maldivian government and people at this critical time.
She also noted Indian assistance in the matter, citing that India had dispatched an investigative team. Minister said that her Indian counterpart, Sushma Swaraj had also enquired on the First Lady’s health during her short visit. She also said that Minister Swaraj had also offered to airlift First Lady to India for further treatment.
Minister Dunya added that the speed at which Sri Lanka, India, Saudi Arabia and other parties who had assisted at that time, was a testament to the good relations between them and the Maldives. She thanked all the parties for their assistance on behalf of the Government and herself personally.
