On the momentous occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), on behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives, I have the honour, to convey sincere good wishes and warm congratulations to the Government and the friendly people of Japan.
The Maldives started receiving the services of JOCV programme in 1982. During the span of over three decades, over 250 JOCV have worked side by side with the people of the Maldives. The hard work and dedication of JOCV have been exceptional and has contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the country. The role of JOCV also has time and again proved to be the perfect bridge between the two countries.
As Japan proudly celebrates the brilliant and exceptional services of JOCV, allow me to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, to express sincere gratitude and appreciation for the services of JOCV in the Maldives. I wish all the best for JOCV and look forward to working closely with Japan, one of the biggest bilateral development partners of the Maldives, as we strive forward with our development agenda.
