MVR 29,000 for a student, MVR 160,000 for an inmate: Education Minister

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham has said that the state had spent an average of MVR 29,000 per student, while this figure stands at MVR 160,000 per inmate.
She made the statement speaking in a press conference highlighting the main successes of the sector in the past two years.
Dr. Shiham said that the Government’s education policy is an all-inclusive education policy, aimed at all children under the age of 18 years. She added that state funds are public funds and as such should be used for the betterment of the citizens.
Minister added that if the education policies of the nation is structured accordingly, then crime rates will drop. She noted that the current education strategy is based on those aspects.
She said that schools carried out an extremely vital role in the society, in alliance with the Government and the parents. As such students from grades one to 10 or 12, have to graduate from the education system as productive individuals of the society.
