A young policewoman faces dismissal from the police force after she and six others were arrested from a guesthouse in K. Thulusdhoo with alcohol.
According to a statement released by the police on Sunday, the guesthouse in question was raided by the police on October 17 following intel regarding the possession, consumption and peddling of alcohol.
The police apprehended seven individuals in the raid; three men aged 23 and one aged 27, as well as women aged 20, 23, and 26.
They were all identified by the police as Maldivian citizens.
According to the police, they were apprehended after officers found two 500ml bottles and a glass containing what is believed to be alcohol in their vicinity.
The police confirm that one of the suspects apprehended in the case is a female police constable.
The police said that all seven suspects were released from custody without taking them to a court for remand, and that drug tests on all seven also came back negative.
However, the policewoman arrested in the case was suspended and investigated by the Professional Standards Command, whose findings were presented to the Disciplinary Board, which had recommended her dismissal.
