Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, the parent company of the national airline Maldivian, has announced that ticket prices for flights to foreign destinations have been reduced by an average of 15 percent.
Speaking in an interview with state media to mark the government’s two-year anniversary, Iyas acknowledged that passengers had long complained about high ticket prices, especially those traveling to resorts and hotels. He said the company has now taken steps to make fares more affordable.
According to Iyas, Maldivian is signing interline agreements with major international airlines to achieve this reduction. As part of the initiative, Maldivian has already signed agreements with Qatar Airways, Azerbaijan Airlines, Emirates, and other carriers, with further partnerships in progress.

“The advantage of interline is that you can buy a single ticket from the foreign airline’s destination all the way to the Maldives. After arriving in Malé, Maldivian ensures that passengers can continue seamlessly to their final destination within the country. That is a huge relief,” Iyas said.
Maldivian currently operates flights to both domestic and international destinations, and officials say the new agreements will not only lower ticket prices but also improve connectivity for travelers heading to the Maldives.
