Japan donates 82-foot patrol vessel to Maldives Customs to strengthen port surveillance

The Government of Japan has donated an 82-foot patrol vessel to the Maldives Customs Service to enhance the management and surveillance of the country’s international ports.
The vessel was provided under Japan’s Economic Cooperation Grant Aid, and will be jointly operated by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard and the Maldives Customs Service.
Training for the vessel’s operation was conducted in both Japan and the Maldives, with 23 Customs officers participating in the program.
The vessel was officially handed over by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko, and received on behalf of the Maldivian government by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan. Customs Commissioner General Fathimath Dhiyana and senior Customs officials also attended the handover ceremony held on Thursday.

Following the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan, Ambassador Ishigami, and other delegates toured the vessel at the Male' Commercial Harbour, where Customs officers showcased its capabilities.
