The Maldives Minister of Tourism Mr Ali Waheed has said that a platform such as International Maldives Travel Market (IMTM) will greatly facilitate in creating new possibilities for the tourism sector in the country.
Minister Waheed had visited the two-day event at Farukolhufushi on Thursday morning and toured the location visiting the stalls.
While speaking with local media, the Maldives Tourism Minister had claimed that a travel market such as IMTM will open trade possibilities significantly for the tourism sector attracting foreign investment options and other interested parties willing to do business with local hospitality brands.
Furthermore, Minister Waheed had stressed on the strenuous circumstances under such events are organized and held in Maldives while affirming such issues will be resolved through government initiatives and support.
In addition to this Minister Waheed had also highlighted on the incumbent government’s planned initiative of introducing MICE tourism which is a niche group of tourism dedicated to planning, booking and facilitating conferences, seminars and other similar events – regarded as a strong moneymaker in the travel industry.
The Maldives Tourism Minister also asserted that the incumbent government was moving towards amending 16 statutes of the local Tourism Act, adding the amendments will be made before the conclusion of the current government’s first year.
On a closing note, Minister Waheed had said events such as IMTM become reason and encouragement the government needs in thriving to improve and better the tourism sector in a holistic manner.
